Math 1 advanced: 6th grade                                                What is pre-algebra?

In Volusia county we structure courses by Florida's Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and associated benchmarks.

We divide the courses by Essential Questions. 

Here are Essential Questions for the math 1 adv course:

• Using rational numbers, can the student apply all mathematical operations and understand their context?

• Can students use proportions to solve everyday life problems?

• Can the student use linear equations and inequalities to solve real world problems?

• Can the student use given data, graph and analyze appropriately?

• Can the students apply geometric formulas to solve real life situations involving 2 and 3 dimensional figures?

During the first grading we period we will include: 

• write numbers in decimal form, as fractions, and as percents

• solve problems involving mathematical thinking and practical issues

• add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers, fractions and decimals using proper order of operations

• work with expressions and evaluation
