Two lines are parallel if they have the same slope. They will never intersect.

example:

y = x + 2 and y = x+1

have no point of intersection. Algebraically we can see this because there is no x-value for which x+ 1 = x + 2

Note that y = x + 1 and y = x +2 have the same slope but different intercepts.
